Mr. Gunter is an East Atlanta native who started his business career early, from picking up bottle caps at seven to running Atlanta’s largest newspaper route at the age of twelve. He started work for GE five years later as an office assistant and within a year the District Manager took him under his wing to begin his training in the way of big business. At twenty-one Mr. Gunter was drafted into World War II. He trained to become a glider pilot, flying four missions, the most famous know as D-Day. After successfully navigating the war, Mr. Gunter returned to Georgia to start a family and a business. In the early fifties his company saw many transitions from selling electrical equipment to selling Junior Jukes jukeboxes and sewing machines. In 1952 he began Guy T. Gunter and Associates, beginning our tradition in appliances, representing lines such as Chambers and Subzero. The sixties saw an evolution in the home industry, being on the cutting edge of the industry in kitchens and kitchen equipment, Mr. Gunter’s house was featured in the AJC and the original shake and bake commercial, “It’s Shake and Bake, and I Helped!”. Following the sixties he continued to evolve his business, representing and distributing the U-line appliance brand for over forty years and doing business with historical Atlantan’s such as Hank Aaron, Joseph E Lowery and Ted Turner. Currently Mr. Gunter works everyday in a consulting position to ensure our heritage is maintained. He’s an intrepid salesman, a passionate customer advocate, and a Legend in the appliance industry.

Executive Director

Theron started his life with his grandfather at the age of six months. “My grandfather is my oldest and best friend”. From an early age Guy and Theron were inseparable, spending time in the evenings and flying together on Sunday. When he was old enough Mr. Gunter allowed him to begin work in the Warehouse. Starting at age twelve he spent all school breaks learning the business and at age eighteen elected to begin working full time. After spending a year as the warehouse grunt, he moved up to installation assistant. Then in succession ran his own delivery truck, managed the warehouse, and ran operations, including purchasing for the company. After overseeing the move from the original fourteenth street location our new location he was named Executive Director. Theron maintains a vision for the company that bridges the gap between old-school business values and new school efficiency.

Joy began work with Guy Gunter and Associates at the age of fifteen years old, where she was taught the business by her Mother and Father. After graduating high school Joy moved to California in pursuit of a fashion and design degree. Upon returning to Atlanta she worked at the Peachtree Center management company for John Portman and then ran the books for a large general contracting firm. She then returned to GTG in the early 80’s to oversee administrations where she has been ever since. Joy is the only of the 2nd generation Gunter’s to learn the business, giving us three generations of family involvement.

Outside Sales

An experienced appliance expert, Kit has been in the industry for over 15 years. After many years of working as a realtor, she accepted a position with HADCO, the distributor for Viking. Finding her passion centered on the kitchen industry, she was excited a few years later to join the showroom and staff at The Westye Group, the distributor for SubZero and Wolf products. The experience she received working with designers, builders and showroom events, led her to the retail segment of our industry. During this time Kit also served on the executive board of NKBA and as VP of Programs for two years. Her volunteer and chair duties led events to combine members of many industry partners, as well as NKBA and NARI. As a well established representative in the market, Kit joins the team at Guy T. Gunter and Associates to handle our outside sales, and focus on our builder and designer market.
