Guy T. Gunter, Founder
Guy T. Gunter, founder of Guy T. Gunter and Associates (GTG), is credited with transforming kitchen appliance sales in Atlanta. A legend in the appliance marketplace, he has led our company, for almost 60 years, guiding us as we grew from a small neighborhood store to the appliance center where the Southeast shops for the fine appliances and quality service.
Ever the entrepreneur, Guy launched his business career when he was just seven years old, picking up and selling bottle caps. By the time he was 12, he had dvanced to newspaper carrier, running Atlanta’s largest newspaper route. Five years later, when just 17, he joined General Electric as an office assistant. Within a year at GE, he was working with the District Manager, learning the intricacies of big business.
At 21, guy was drafted and served as a glider pilot in World War II, flying four successful missions, including one over France at D-Day. After the war, Guy returned to his hometown Atlanta, where he entered the world of sales again, this time selling electrical equipment, jukeboxes and sewing machines.
In 1952, Guy narrowed his focus to appliance sales and launched a new company he called Guy T. Gunter and Associates. The business quickly prospered as he brought new brands and new ideas to Atlanta. In fact, after just one year in business, Guy’s company had more than a one million in revenues.
In the 1960′s, Atlanta boomed and so did the area’s housing market and GTG. The company became known as the place to find cutting edge kitchen equipment and the latest in innovative kitchen appliances. GTG is credited with introducing Sub-Zero, Thermador and the now defunct Chambers brands to Atlanta.
Atlantans, including luminaries such as Hank Aaron, Joseph E. Lowery and Ted Turner, came to depend on Guy and GTG for their fine kitchen appliances. As a result, today Guy T. Gunter and Associates is known today for its high-end products, competitive pricing, and its unparalleled sales consulting and installation services.
